Today I started learning Malkauns in Vilambit gat. The following are my learnings from today’s class

  • Vilambit follows a pattern – DRD, DRD, R, DDR ( This came to 8 beats on tabla) . I am yet to understand this thoroughly.

  • I need to play three pieces of the vilambit gat with the proper bol and appropriate meend

  • I need to improve on the way I pull mean especially near M D N

  • I need to use tabla while playing vilambit gat

  • I need to listen to Sitar vilambit compositions. Unless I listen to music, I can never play proper music.

Guruji told me that there were many people who liked my performance on the Guru Poornima event. Even though I played for a short while, it seems that my bol was properly audible to the audience and they enjoyed it. That made me happy. At the same time, I know that there are a ton of things I need to work on. I need to listen to music and read about music.

For the coming class, I need to practice the Malkauns vilambit as well as prepare my own piece that reflects that chalan of the current composition.
