Malkauns Taan
In today’s class, my guruji corrected the basic meand pattern that I was playing, I had to play komal ga whereas my meand sounded like shudh ga. I need to practice more so that my fingers know how much to pull the string to get a komal ga sound. Essentially I was playing a particular taan incorrectly and Sir corrected it. Also he taught me a new taan which had a lot of meand structure in it. Hopefully I will get to practice atleast two hours daily this week so that my fingers learn how much to pull the string at various frets. The thing that I am realizing after meand practice is that, “ I need to put in countless hours of practice to become good at Sitar meand”. I am willing to put those many hours in my life. Guruji remarked today that I was learning slowly. I am happy as I am atleast showing some progress. If I keep at it, even if I am a slow learner, in another 20 years time, I should be playing Sitar very well. Yeah, by the time I retire from active work, I will atleast have Sitar with me to give me company
