You can learn 1000 langugages and still not come up with a single useful application. In Math too, you can know zillion algorithms but you might not be able to identify the problem properly and use one of the tools available. Math like software is a set of tools and one needs to go for breadth-first learning approach rather than depth-first as it gives you the skill to identify the problem which in most of the cases is of utmost importance.
